Matching Your Call with Ministry

A CHECKLIST TO HELP

How do I know if I belong? If you answer “No” to any of the following, perhaps you are not yet “called” to minister in this particular ministry.

CRITERIA ASSESSMENT
Are my values the same as those of the Mission/Ministry?
Do I agree with the Statement of Faith of the Mission/Ministry?
Do I agree with the mission statement of the Mission/Ministry?
Do I agree with the vision of the Mission/Ministry?
Am I prepared to apply myself to fulfill the objectives of the Mission/Ministry?
Am I prepared to submit to the strategic plan of the Mission/Ministry?
Do I respect the Board and CEO of the Mission/Ministry?
Am I prepared to submit my vision to the vision of the Mission/Ministry?
Am I willing to sacrifice my own desires for the good of the whole?
Am I prepared to accept the responsibility and loyalty that goes with serving with the Mission/Ministry?
Do my skills match those needed by the Mission/Ministry?
Will my sense of calling be fulfilled as I submit to serving in the Mission/Ministry?
Does my  fruit (evidence from the past) demonstrate my fit with the Mission/Ministry?
Do I have the right personal attributes to fit the team of the Mission/Ministry?
Is my attitude right?
Am I applying to serve, not be served?
Am I applying to fulfill the Mission/Ministry’s objectives and not just my own?
Am I able to freely share in fellowship with other Christians who come from a different denomination, or background, without having to convince them of my views?

Dr Richardson has been in ministry since 1976, following a brief career as a Civil Engineer. He has a broad experience serving as a church planter, associate pastor, senior minister of a large multifaceted, multi-staffed church, and founding principal of Tabor College, Melbourne. Currently he works with churches and organizations from all denominations as a consultant, counselor, mentor, and trainer.
